Public Breastfeeding Information/Publications

National Breastfeeding HelpLine, a project of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women's Health, provides information on a variety of breastfeeding topics and is the publisher of "Your Guide to Breastfeeding," an excellent print resource that I provide to new moms and clients. (The guide is available in English, Spanish and Chinese.)

The International Breastfeeding Centre is a Web site run by Dr. Jack Newman, one of my favorite sources for lactation help. (Yes, he is a guy — but he knows his stuff!) He is the founder of Newman Breastfeeding Clinic and Institute based at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. This group's videos and print resources are always one of my first stops.

Tongue Tie Information, Dr. Bobby Ghaheri is one of the country's foremost experts on tongue-ties.

Kelly Mom Parenting/Breastfeeding is a popular Website run by Kelly Bonyata, an international board certified lactation consultant and mother of three that provides what Kelly describes as  "evidence-based information" on breastfeeding and parenting. Kelly does a nice job providing practical, helpful advice to new parents.

American Academy of Pediatrics Breastfeeding Initiatives is a Web site that provides breastfeeding recommendations, advocacy materials and resources for health professionals who want to learn more about the importance of their role in supporting breastfeeding families.

La Leche League International's mission is to "help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother."

The Milky Way Foundation, makers of the movie The Milky Way, a documentary exposé about breastfeeding in the United States, which shows how women can reclaim the knowledge that inherently resides in every woman and how to trust what we already know.

Breastfeeding Law. The National Council of State Legislatures has compiled a comprehensive list of state and federal laws regarding breastfeeding.
